In December of 2005 the holding company changed its name to Jacobs Financial Group, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: JFGI) and acquired First Surety Corporation, a West Virginia insurer that has been redirected to specialize in underwriting surety bonds, with a focus on regulated industries, using strategies and synergies of the company’s other business units.
John M. Jacobs, the founder of the firm, has been the president, chief executive officer and principal portfolio manager of Jacobs & Company since its inception. In relation to the business of Jacobs & Company, Mr. Jacobs appears regularly on Bloomberg Television and Radio and is frequently quoted in the financial press. Prior to establishing the firm in 1988, Mr. Jacobs was a practicing public accountant for over thirteen years, during which period he was a managing partner of his accounting firm and a business and personal adviser to his clients. He has incorporated the disciplines he acquired as an accountant into his investment style.
In addition to his positions with Jacobs & Company, Mr. Jacobs is president, chairman of the board of directors, and a principal shareholder of Jacobs Financial Group, Inc.
